A legal challenge

Legislation is constantly evolving, and new laws are regularly introduced, forcing players in the logistics sector to comply with them.

In the past, within the European Union, the French Post Office, with Colissimo, held a monopoly on parcel delivery. However, since 2010, the parcel market has been opened up to competition for consignments weighing more than 50 grams, which has had a considerable impact on the delivery sector.

New directives

Directive 94/62/EC introduced new rules to standardize the management of packaging and packaging waste across the European Union (EU).

The medium-term goal is to make all packaging fully recyclable by 2030 as part of its Circular Economy Action Plan.

As a result, certain types of products are now subject to stricter quality and safety rules than before due to new technical, national and EU regulations on parcel imports.

This means that logistics teams must reinvent themselves to comply with these legal requirements and diversify their skills, in particular by integrating more female talent through digitalization and training.

Artificial intelligence

In addition, the advent of artificial intelligence also raises legal issues, particularly with regard to taxes on robots and machines considered employees in their own right, subject to the same legal aspects as human employees. This may lead to the introduction of specific social security contributions and levies.

In conclusion, the logistics sector is subject to numerous political, economic, sociocultural, technological, environmental and legal constraints. Faced with this, it is necessary to rethink solutions and find new approaches to meet these challenges.
