In a world in which every little action counts, it is essential for all companies to have a responsible approach.

Reducing our carbon footprint, using sustainable resources, preventing pollution, zero plastic, zero waste, ... All these ecological transitions are a major priority that continues to accelerate.

In this series of 5 articles we will explore the different issues of waste management inside companies.

A brand image concern

As more and more consumers appreciate environmentally conscious companies, larger companies are eager to publish an optimal waste indicator.

43% of consumers frustrated with excessive packaging

However, 80% of the companies surveyed in the same DS Smith study admitted that they often use packaging that is not the right size for the product.

In order to appeal to consumers, companies, packaging manufacturers and industrialists are also trying to use renewable and sustainable materials, which are very well perceived and are often an expectation from consumers.

Other actions also help companies to enhance their image with their customers and to appeal to them in order to differentiate themselves from competitors. For example:

  • Giving certain waste to associations that take it back (plastic caps, clothing, etc.) or give it a second life (furniture, electrical and electronic equipment, etc.) ;
  • Use adapted companies, belonging to the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE), for the collection of certain waste such as paper for example;
  • Recovering their organic waste through compost, the product of which will be reused locally;
  • To be part of territorial approaches supported by local public authorities, such as the "Zero Waste, Zero Waste" territories.

Unfortunately, while these actions are a good start, they are obviously not enough or not good enough for the planet. So we'll explore real solutions in the following articles to better manage our packaging solutions.
